Folk Festival Poster

This is a poster I created for the National Folk Festival held annually in Richmond Virginia. I started with a few dozen thumbnail sketches and a series of color studies. Once I decided on the concept, layout and typographical solutions, I continued on to the final file which was completed digitally in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. The finished 300 MB file is 18" x 24" at 300 dpi in CYMK.

Cupcake spread

I created this magazine spread around a series of illustrations I painted traditionally in acrylic on board. I used photographs of myself baking cupcakes as reference for these pieces. I scanned the originals and then brought them into my InDesign layout. I really love combining traditional painting techniques with Digital Art & Design projects.

What's Cookin' at The Palm?

My brother is the Executive Souse Chef at The Palm Restaurant in Orlando, Florida. I created this magazine layout around an oil on canvas illustration I did as a gift for him. I scanned the painting and brought it into the magazine layout I created in Adobe InDesign. I especially like the way elements of the illustration interact with the layout and typography.

The Rum Diary

Hunter S. Thompson is one of America's most eclectic writers. I created this mock book cover after reading the novel, The Rum Diary. I began this cover traditionally with scans of torn paper that I imported into an illustrator file and finished in InDesign.

Summer nights

Summer days, summer nights began with an acrylic painting I did on my front porch during a balmy summer evening in Florida. The grill was going, my boyfriend was playing blues guitar and a warm breeze blew from the Gulf of Mexico. I was inspired by the finished painting to create a mock magazine spread on summer music. I wanted to keep the layout simple, clean and inviting. The headline, Summer days, summer nights came to me from a Bob Dylan lyric.

Tart!

I've always wanted to write, illustrate and design a cookbook. I created this small series of tart illustrations with that end in mind. These were created completely digitally in Adobe Photoshop using a combination of layers and paths. I used original photography as reference. My plan now is to bring them into a layout for a cookbook.

KidsGuide

Here is a cover I designed and illustrated for KidsGuide Magazine which was published in Los Angeles, California. It ran regionally across the southwest. All I was given was the cover story title which was "Return of the Action Summer". My concept was to have a girl on a sailboat with "fish items" jumping in front of the boat representing fun things kids can do during the summer months. The masthead or title remains the same from month-to-month but the rest of the typography and layout is mine. This was done with a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Indesign.

Alphabets!

Here are 3 out of 26 alphabet cards I created for self promotional purposes. I began my process by brainstorming alliterations for each letter of the alphabet. The resulting alliterations formed the basis of my designs and illustrations. The next step was a serious of thumbnail sketches and value studies for each of the alphabet cards. The final high-res Photoshop illustration files were brought into InDesign for typography and offset printing.
